GOOD NEWS FOR THE WHOLE WORLD

“And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear It; and then the end will come.” The words of Jesus, in Matthew 24:14

Have you ever heard someone predict an event and think within yourself, ‘I doubt that will ever happen’? These days the world seems filled with opinions regarding what the future will hold. From self-proclaimed experts on your favourite news feed to social media commenters, many have predictions and thoughts on what is happening and what lays ahead. Some get it more or less right and others don’t. All of these commentators have one thing in common; they have little or no power to ensure that their grand predictions come to pass.

In Matthew 24, Jesus foretold the future. He foretold the spread of the Good News of his Kingdom. Unlike the mass of commenters today, Jesus does have the power to ensure that what he said would happen does indeed come to pass. Because of the fact that he is the King, he has the authority to see that the Good News of his Kingdom is preached throughout the world.

We can react to this in one of two ways. We could assume that as it is his Kingdom, he will take care of things and that there is nothing that we need to do to move his agenda forward. In other words: His Kingdom – his job. It’s all in his hands. That is not the reaction Jesus has in mind for us.

As citizens of his Kingdom, our only correct response is to hear Christ’s words and step forward into whatever role he has for us in his great endeavor of preaching the Good News around the world. If you are a follower of King Jesus, you are a part of his Kingdom. If you are a part of his Kingdom, you have a role in the objectives of the King.

RockPointe, as a church family you have a long and fruitful history of engaging in Christ’s mission to see the Good News preached throughout the world. In years past you have given generously of your finances. Many of you have gone on Short Term Missions Trips to help with spreading the Good News and to gain a clearer understanding of what God is doing around the world. I must also add that you have sent out some of your best and brightest young people (and the odd older one too). You have devoted yourselves to joining Jesus in the fulfillment of what he said would be. Sadly, that fire has been waning as of late.

It is time to rekindle that mission fire. It is time to reengage with Jesus around the world. It is time to once again pour our resources and our lives into the cause that is the very heartbeat of Jesus’ mission.

This weekend begins RockPointe’s, Missions Emphasis Week. It is an opportunity to reignite our flame for the spread of the Good News. There will be multiple opportunities to be involved.

On Sunday, as a part of all our services, we have the opportunity to hear one of our very own international workers, Anna Sinclair, call us to engage with Jesus’ mission. On Sunday, our Children’s Ministry will also be learning about Jesus’ invitation to join his work around the world. If you have a child in Kids Min, ask them what they learned.

On Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at our Bowridge Site, all RockPointers are invited to come and hear more completely what God is doing in Mexico City, through Anna’s ministry. BEWARE: it is often through hearing stories of God at work that our heart is moved to join the mission! Thanks to our Young Adults who will be hosting this evening.

On Wednesday, Anna will join our Youth Ministry. Please be in prayer for this gathering as God’s call is often heard during this crucial period of life.

Small Groups, you will have the opportunity to continue the discussion as prayer prompts and study questions are being provided for you at this link. Even if you are not in a Small Group, click on the link and begin to regularly pray for those we have sent.

Jesus has promised that the Good News will be preached to all nations. He has also called us to be a part of that grand mission. To not engage is to express a personal denial of Christ’s call upon each one of our lives. We all have a role to play.

As you engage in Missions Emphasis Week, please pray that God would give you a heart that says ‘yes’ to his call upon your life. Please pray that an unquenchable fire for the proclamation of the Good News around the world would be ignited within the very heart of RockPointe Church.

So that all the nations will hear….
